The Northern Ireland Schools Judo Championships comes back to the Leisureplex in Lisburn this June.
Bringing together the young judoka from across Northern Ireland, the Schools Championship is a development event for competitors under the age of 18, with participants competing on the day to be crowned the Northern Ireland Schools Champion for their age group.
Previously staged in the Foyle Arena, the event will be hosted in Lisburn on the 23rd June 2019.
Moving the event back to the Leisureplex where it was held last in 2016 was a decision taken by the Northern Ireland Judo Federation to enable competitors to access competitive events in various locations across Northern Ireland.
Mark Donald from the NIJF said,
“The team at the Leisureplex have been really receptive to holding the event and we’re looking forward now to seeing it in action on the day!
The junior members are the future of the sport, so it’s great we can have a dedicated competition for them to get a feel of what it’s like to be on the mats in front of an audience early on in their Judo career.”
The Chairman of the Council’s Leisure & Community Development Committee said,
“Lagan Valley LeisurePlex has a proud history of hosting prestigious sporting events and we are delighted to continue this success by hosting the 2019 Northern Ireland Schools Judo Championships.
The event provides a great platform for developing the sport by giving young people the opportunity to experience the fun of competitive judo, while representing their school.
I hope the event continues to grow from strength to strength and that it encourages many more young people to take up the sport recreationally or competitively.”
“I would to thank the Northern Ireland Judo Federation for organising the event and wish all the schools every success as they prepare for the competition in the coming months.”
Entry details will follow shortly, but save the date!
