DESCRIPTION:The next NIJF Dan Grade Promotional Examination will take place on Sunday 7th June 2025 \nCheck in: 9:30am \nVenue: LONGTOWER COMMUNITY CENTRE \nAnne Street\, Londonderry BT48 6PB \nUPDATED DETAILS FOR JUNE…\nThe grading is open to 1st Kyu (brown belt) judoka and above. \n \nThis will be a Multi-grade event where Dan grade judoka can compete against lower Dan grades. An ippon win against the same or higher grade is worth 10 points and 5 points for an Ippon win against lower grades. \nFor women this is extended to 1st Kyu judoka. If a female Dan grade scores ippon against a 1st Kyu judoka 5 points are awarded\, but 10 points for an Ippon from the same or higher grade. A win by Waza-ari earns 5 points unless against a lower grade which scores zero. Under the new rules (January 2026) to qualify for a line-up the first two contests must be won by Ippon. \nJudoka wishing to take part in this grading must have an ‘in date’ Judo licence and pre-register by completing the online booking below. \nIf there are insufficient entries in a category this fee will be reduced or refunded. \nOnline entries close midday Thursday 4th June and cash entries on the day will be charged £30.00 \nYou can get a paper form to make your application if you wish here. \n

DESCRIPTION:Purchasing this ticket offers access to the both days of the Coaching Conference as well as a multi-buy saving!  \nPlease note the venues will be the Longtower for day one and Lisburn Racquets Club for day two. \n  \nSaturday 25th February – Day 1\n  \nJoin us on the mats of the Longtower\, as Nigel Donohue from the BJA takes us through what it takes to join the a performance team\, compete at the top level and gives us an insight into what it takes\, to make a club player into an international competitor. \nHe’ll also expand on his role as the Performance Director to show us on the mats how to improve our own coaching and analysis of players at all levels of club standard as well. \nYou will then have the chance to quiz both Nigel and Matt Divall (Head of Performance Pathway at the BJA) on all things Judo and development. \n  \nThen in the afternoon…\n \nHow would you like to learn from a 3 x Olympic medallist and a 5 x World Champion! \nWe are delighted to let you join us in a masterclass from Yoko Tanabe. \nYoko needs no introduction in the world of female Judo and we are delighted she is joining us in the Longtower to showcase her skills and competition winning techniques and mindset. In turn she will be helping us all learn how to execute the techniques that made her one of the most successful competitors in her time. \nYou will not want to miss this! \n  \nWhat you need to do and have:\n\nPlease arrive 20 minutes early for registration\nA clean Judogi to change into\nPlenty of water\nSnacks if required\nPad and pen for notes (if required)\nYour valid NIJF licence\n\nWhat’s included:\n\nA light lunch will be included as part of the day\n\n  \nSunday 26th February – Day 2\n \nJoin us in the function rooms of the Lisburn Racquets club for a day of learning and education to assist our delivery of and uplift our skillsets. \nOur first speaker \nStarting our day of learning will be Jo McParland. \nJo is from Cara Friend\, and will be educating us on the inclusion of the LGBTQ+ community. \nHer presentation will involve how to understand the impact of diversity\, and the various terminologies in society. \nJo will also cover identity\, how to approach identity and also the implications and having an understanding of a person who is “coming out”. \n  \nOur second speaker \n \nMatt Divall\, Head of the BJA Performance Pathway will deliver a presentation on the hajime and matte model of Judo. \nSo from gripping\, positioning and how to complete techniques into ippons or transition into newaza\, the best ways to coach your players and see their skills grow in a framework \nIn turn\, the understanding of the techniques\, set up and application of tachi waza and ne waza will assist with growth and understandning mentally\, and also in turn improve retention of players through a development of skills on the mat. \n  \nThen in the afternoon…\nWe get on the mats\, but only in loose clothing! \nJames Mulroy from Judo Assist Ireland is going to lead a session on Adaptive and Inclusive Judo. Opening our minds\, then our club doors to the power that Judo has to make everyone welcome. \n\nHe will also keep us up to date with learning techniques and skills to help adaptive players we have and support their varied needs. \nTo complete the day\, you will have the chance to network with the panellists\, the other coaches and attendees to create links and ask questions. \n  \nWhat you need to do and have:\n\nPlease arrive 20 minutes early for registration\nPlease wear loose comfortable clothing you can move around in\nPlenty of water\nSnacks if required\nPad and pen for notes (if required)\nYour valid NIJF licence\n\n\nWhat’s included:\n\nA light sandwich lunch will be included as part of the day\nThis will be counted as one day of a revalidation event for coaching credentials\n\n  \nPlease note\, the event is limited to numbers and priority will be given to club coaches. However\, club volunteers and officials are also welcome to attend the session.

SUMMARY:Club and Area Referee's Course
DESCRIPTION:The Northern Ireland Judo Federation are pleased to offer face to face award training for the BJA Club and Area referee levels in the same session. \nThe module will cover the basic structure of refereeing\, penalty situations\, signals\, referee pathway as well as the competition framework. \nThe module is suitable for athletes or coaches who have not previously had any referee or official competition experience but meet or exceed the entry criteria set out in the Referee Handbook which is on the BJA website under Refereeing resources. \nIf in doubt\, please call the organiser to discuss\, Bill Taggart\, in this case. Club and Area referee levels may use this module as a revalidation event if they are currently invalid. Coaches who fully qualify to their next level including the event practical examination can claim a coach revalidation on completion. \n\nIf you have questions or wish to attend\, then please contact Bill Taggart – billtaggart@btconnect.com \nWhen – 12th June 22  9.00am registration to 4.30pm  \nWhere – Longtower Youth Centre\, Anne Street\, BT48 \nWho – Tutors will be Bill Taggart and Jim Toland  \nHow much – £15.00 fee (£5.00 subsided by NIJF and payable on the day) \nThe criteria for entry will be as follows: –  \nClub Award Entry Criteria\nTo attempt the Club Referee Award the candidate must on the day of education and theory/practical examination have / be a minimum of:   \n\n12 years of age\n10th Mon / 3rd Kyu\nA minimum of 1-year judo experience\nMust hold current BJA / Judo Scotland / NIJF / WJA membership\n\nTo fully qualify at the Club Referee level\, candidates must:   \n\nSuccessfully complete a Club Award education module\nSuccessfully complete the Club Award theory examination\nSuccessfully complete the Club Award practical examination\n\nArea Award Entry Criteria\nTo attempt the Area Referee Award the candidate must on the day of education and theory / practical examination have / be a minimum of:   \n\n15 years of age\n13th Mon / 2nd Kyu\nHave been a Club referee for at least 1 year\, unless entering directly at Area level\nMust hold current BJA / Judo Scotland / NIJF / WJA membership\n\nTo fully qualify at the Area Referee level\, candidates must:   \n\nSuccessfully complete the Area Award education module\nSuccessfully complete the Area Award theory examination\nSuccessfully complete the Area Award practical examination\n\nPlease note that this will not be a coach revalidation event unless the theory and practical elements of the course are taken and passed. \nWe would hope that those successful at the theory will take the practical examination at the NI Schools on 19th June 22. \nAnyone who holds a current Club Referee Award can do the course with a view to promotion to the next level. \nIf other valid referees wish to attend the course as a refresher\, then they are more than welcome to come along \nAll candidates MUST wear a white judogi.
