Club and Area Referee’s Course

The Northern Ireland Judo Federation are pleased to offer face to face award training for the BJA Club and Area referee levels in the same session.
The module will cover the basic structure of refereeing, penalty situations, signals, referee pathway as well as the competition framework.
The module is suitable for athletes or coaches who have not previously had any referee or official competition experience but meet or exceed the entry criteria set out in the Referee Handbook which is on the BJA website under Refereeing resources.
If in doubt, please call the organiser to discuss, Bill Taggart, in this case. Club and Area referee levels may use this module as a revalidation event if they are currently invalid. Coaches who fully qualify to their next level including the event practical examination can claim a coach revalidation on completion.

Who – Tutors will be Bill Taggart and Jim Toland
How much – £15.00 fee (£5.00 subsided by NIJF and payable on the day)
The criteria for entry will be as follows: –
Club Award Entry Criteria
To attempt the Club Referee Award the candidate must on the day of education and theory/practical examination have / be a minimum of:
- 12 years of age
- 10th Mon / 3rd Kyu
- A minimum of 1-year judo experience
- Must hold current BJA / Judo Scotland / NIJF / WJA membership
To fully qualify at the Club Referee level, candidates must:
- Successfully complete a Club Award education module
- Successfully complete the Club Award theory examination
- Successfully complete the Club Award practical examination
Area Award Entry Criteria
To attempt the Area Referee Award the candidate must on the day of education and theory / practical examination have / be a minimum of:
- 15 years of age
- 13th Mon / 2nd Kyu
- Have been a Club referee for at least 1 year, unless entering directly at Area level
- Must hold current BJA / Judo Scotland / NIJF / WJA membership
To fully qualify at the Area Referee level, candidates must:
- Successfully complete the Area Award education module
- Successfully complete the Area Award theory examination
- Successfully complete the Area Award practical examination
Please note that this will not be a coach revalidation event unless the theory and practical elements of the course are taken and passed.
We would hope that those successful at the theory will take the practical examination at the NI Schools on 19th June 22.
Anyone who holds a current Club Referee Award can do the course with a view to promotion to the next level.
If other valid referees wish to attend the course as a refresher, then they are more than welcome to come along
All candidates MUST wear a white judogi.
