Belt Grading

Gradings are how you progress through the belt ranks towards the coveted black belt and then potentially beyond!

For Juniors we run what is called the “mon” grade system where the fundamentals of Judo are taught, and grades are awarded on technical capability and Judo knowledge.

Seniors work through what is called a “kyu” syllabus which combines fundamental movement with more advanced techniques and submission techniques as well as competitive aspects.

The “Dan” grade is the black belt, and this is achieved through having a high amount of technical knowledge and a certain amount of points which are accomplished by being victorious against other Judo players of similar grade and size.

Your coach will explain every aspect of the grading system and how it works.
