🎄 Christmas Message from NIJF Chairman Russell Brown 🎄
As we reach the close of another year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the journey we’ve shared together as the Northern Ireland Judo Federation.
This year has felt very much like a judo competition itself.
We’ve faced challenges head‑on, sometimes being thrown, sometimes finding ourselves under pressure, but always rising again. In those moments, we’ve had to look inside ourselves, to draw strength from our discipline, our community, and our shared values. That process has not only helped us overcome adversity, but it has strengthened our outlook for the future.
On the mat, judo may be about point scoring, technique, and competition.
Off the mat, however, it is something far greater. It is a way of life that teaches resilience, respect, and the ability to support one another.

These are lessons that extend far beyond sport, enriching our families, our communities, and our society.
I am reminded of the work of a blacksmith: to create something beautiful, the metal must be struck again and again, shaped through fire and pressure. In the same way, the challenges we have faced this year have forged us into something stronger, more resilient, and more united.
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to our Board, our membership, our volunteers, and our staff. Your dedication and commitment have been the backbone of our progress this year. Together, we have not only sustained our Federation but also celebrated remarkable achievements.
In particular, our Pathway Squad and Talent Development Squad have shone brightly, bringing home numerous medals and gaining invaluable competition experiences.

Their success is a testament to the hard work of our athletes, coaches, and support teams, and it fills us with pride for the future of judo in Northern Ireland.
As we look forward to 2026, let us carry that spirit with us.
May we continue to grow, to support each other, and to celebrate the achievements of our clubs as they make a difference to so may, our athletes, coaches, and volunteers.
On behalf of the Northern Ireland Judo Federation, I wish you and your families a joyful Christmas and a peaceful New Year.
— Russell Brown, Chairman, NIJF
