Congratulations to Stephen Sims – Newly Qualified IJF Continental B Referee!
Stephen Sims has officially joined the ranks of IJF Continental B Referees after a demanding and successful examination weekend in Malaga, Spain.

Over the course of three intense days, Stephen demonstrated his deep knowledge and sharp officiating skills, earning a prestigious qualification that now allows him to referee at major international events such as European Opens.
Stephen was one of 23 candidates who made history by all passing the theory assessment on Friday—a rare and impressive feat.
The practical examinations followed on Saturday and Sunday, testing each candidate’s ability to apply their expertise in real-time scenarios.
Despite the sunny Malaga setting, the schedule was so packed that Stephen didn’t even get a chance to dip his toes in the pool!
This milestone marks a significant step in Stephen’s refereeing journey. With his new qualification, he’s poised to contribute to the sport at a continental level, bringing his own brand of fairness, precision, and passion to the tatami.
For now, Stephen plans to take a moment to reflect on his achievement, while keeping one eye firmly on the future and the next level of refereeing progress.
Well done, Stephen—your dedication and professionalism continue to inspire the judo community in the NIJF and beyond!
