Finding Your Feet – Coach Training & Rollout Invitation

The Northern Ireland Judo Federation is proud to open the Finding Your Feet initiative to all coaches, clubs, and community partners across Northern Ireland. Following the success of the first pilot class delivered in partnership with British Judo, we are now inviting coaches to learn how to deliver these sessions confidently within their own clubs and local groups.
For NIJF Coaches the course is FREE (registration is below)
Finding Your Feet is a gentle‑movement, confidence‑building programme designed to support older adults, and individuals who benefit from structured balance, mobility, and fall‑prevention activity. It’s an opportunity for clubs to widen their reach, strengthen community impact, and offer a safe, welcoming pathway into physical activity.
Why Coaches Should Get Involved
Delivering Finding Your Feet classes gives coaches the chance to:
- Support older adults with meaningful, life‑enhancing movement
- Possibly generate an additional income for the club
- Build stronger links with community centres, health groups, and local organisations
- Grow club membership through inclusive, low‑barrier sessions
- Promote judo as a lifelong activity that improves wellbeing, balance, and confidence
The programme is simple to deliver, highly adaptable, and fully supported by The Northern Ireland Judo Federation and British Judo.
What Coaches Receive
To make rollout easy and accessible, every attending coach will receive:
✔ Free Coach Resources
A complete pack of delivery materials including:
- Session plans
- Safety guidance
- Movement progressions
- Communication templates for promoting classes
These resources are ready to use immediately in your club or community venue.
✔ Certification of Attendance
Coaches who complete the training will receive an official certificate from The Northern Ireland Judo Federation and British Judo confirming their participation and readiness to deliver Finding Your Feet sessions.
✔ Ongoing Support
The Northern Ireland Judo Federation will provide continued guidance, promotional support, and best‑practice updates as the programme expands across the country.
What the Training Covers
During the coach training session, you will learn:
- How to structure and deliver a Finding Your Feet class
- How to adapt movements for different abilities
- How to create a safe, encouraging environment
- How to engage community groups and attract participants
The training is practical, friendly, and designed for coaches of all experience levels.
Be Part of the Movement
The first pilot class has already shown the positive impact this programme can have. Now The Northern Ireland Judo Federation wants to empower coaches across the country to bring Finding Your Feet into their own communities.
If your club or organisation would like to take part, attend the training, or begin delivering classes, we’re here to support you.
Together, we can help more people build confidence, improve balance, and find their feet through judo.
You will need to wear loose comfortable clothing, or a Judogi and bring lunch / refreshments as well.
