Congratulations to one of our coaches, Peggy Magee, who has been appointed on a BJA steering group, focusing on making the doors of the Dojo open to everyone.
Peggy, who is a coach at her own Portaferry club and Simply Judo is an integral part of the work the Northern Ireland Judo Federation is doing with developing inclusion in Judo. Her capabilities have been recognised by the British Judo Association and they have invited to join their EDI development group.
Peggy is constantly pioneering to make Judo inclusive for all and recently held taster sessions for the deaf community which was very well attended and received.
“I have always said that Judo is for everyone, and everyone has the right to do Judo in a safe and welcoming environment.
I hope to be the voice of those that have concerns or feel that they may experience a barrier which prevents them from doing Judo and show them that everyone is welcome on the mats.
The NIJF and BJA are focusing on helping break down any barriers to give everyone the opportunity to do Judo, and I am delighted to be a part of this”.
As Peggy continues to learn and grow her knowledge base, she’ll be passing on this education to the NIJF and the Inclusive Development Group so that we can ensure that every person feels they can be a part of and benefit from Judo.
Well done Peggy from us all!
